Do you follow every blog you click on just in hopes of them following you back?
This is something I do NOT do. I only follow the blogs that I enjoy looking at visually, that have content I can relate to and those that are new and I believe have the potential to be great one day.
Have you ever followed a blog just to have them follow you back and then you later "unfollow"?
I am not the only one that has noticed a few bloggers do this. We know who you are! It's pretty sad. They will follow you and then next month they will "follow" you again. At first I thought that maybe they were already my friend when they landed on my page and instead of commenting that they are "already a friend" they just say that they are a new follower. Well, I did a little investigative work and found that a few of these people are actually going back and forth friending and unfriending and they don't even remember who they are doing it to anymore. I mean, once I friend you I am not going to stoop down to your level and "Unfriend". Maybe it's their way of getting traffic to their site again. IDK Just plain rude!
One more thing... If you are asked to co-host a blog hop keep that blog hop at the top of your page for the full day! Do not enter your personal posts above it. That is also very rude. I think your post can wait another day.
Riley woke up with a bit of a tummy ache today. She kept reeking of poop but when I would try changing her diaper there was just a little smear. lol Finally after a bit of juice she pooped. I cleaned her up and threw both of them in the tub. I was sitting on the sink messing with my phone as they were playing in the tub. Suddenly, Riley starts screaming, "Poo-Poo!" over and over. I look and see a bunch of poop floating in the tub. The best part is I had just finished telling Bella that she can't drink the bath water cause it is very dirty. When Bella finally noticed she was bathing in a bunch of turds she absolutely freaked out! It was pretty damn funny!! I took them both out as quickly as I could, fished out the poop with a bucket, cleaned the tub and then threw the girls back in for a good cleaning. Ahhh...gotta love Monday Morning Mayhem!!!
My husband knows how important it is to me that I be the one in total control of Thanksgiving Dinner. I am a total control freak and I never want to risk anyone messing up my favorite meal of the year. So this year he sat me down and told me that his brother-in-law asked him if he could fry a turkey at our home this year. As much as I love fried turkey and wanted the experience of having it done here I was still a little reluctant to agree. I was very afraid that somehow the turkey wouldn't turn out right and we would be stuck eating side dishes only. I finally agreed but only if I could make a turkey breast as a back-up.
The plan was to have dinner ready by 2 pm. I brined the turkey breast the night before and prepared the cranberry sauce (which I totally forgot to put on the table last night). The morning was total chaos as I struggled to prep my side dishes and take care of the girls. I popped my turkey breast in at 11:30 am. My brother-in-law, Eric, said the oil for the deep fryer only needed 5 minutes to heat up and just 1 hour to fry so he and my husband popped open a few beers and sat around "shootin' the shit" like men do. Oh, did I mention they brought over an 18 lb turkey that was still in the package and still needed to be prepped and seasoned? lol I have to take responsibility for that since they were probably just giving me something else to control.
Turkey prepped and side dishes cooking it is now 3:00 and my turkey breast is out of the oven and absolutely beautiful. I am quite proud. Where is the 18 lb turkey, you ask? Still sitting in my fridge waiting for the temp on the oil to heat up. Yes, the same oil that Eric said "would only take 5 minutes to heat up". Ha Ha! Surprisingly, I am not freaking out. I kinda think it's funny since these two fools said over and over that this would be super easy to do.
3:07 Mr. Turkey finally meets his fate with the fryer. This is working out since we have a few more things that need to be reheated along with still making the rolls.
4:07 Umm... where in the hell is the turkey???? Well, it seems that since Eric F'd up one year and took the turkey out of the oven raw he is now paranoid of under cooking the bird. He leaves it in an additional 20 minutes while we prepare the table.
4:30 and they are bringing in the Turkey. It looks beautiful... dark and beautiful. I touch the skin and it crumbles like ash. I raise an eyebrow but what do I know.
Since this is our first Thanksgiving Dinner in our new home my husband does the honor of carving the turkey. He has never done this before so it's quite funny. My knives suck and he just can't seem to do it. Eric takes over... he has done this many times. He starts to carve and all of a sudden, "Son of a bitch!" The turkey is fried to a complete crisp!!! There is absolutely no salvageable meat left. In fact, any meat that you might be able to see on the breast now looks like dark meat. It's quite hilarious.
Meanwhile, I cut into my beautiful breast and it is pure perfection. Thank God I decided to make that breast! My poor brother-in-law is soooooo upset. I think he apologized over 100x. He couldn't stop saying how embarrassed he was.
I think it's great that we have this funny memory to share year after year.
I hate it when the weather gets colder and the air gets drier. My skin just cannot take the lack of moisture! This is the time of year I really have to start staying on top of my beauty routine when it comes to my skin. Here are some tips I've picked up over the years.
1. Always use an oil-based or petroleum-based moisturizers. Many lotions you find for a lower price at the store will be water or alcohol based and these just add to the problem. Oil based creams are great for treating dry skin and petroleum based creams are best for very dry or cracked skin. I love Eucerin.
2. Avoid hot showers. I love taking hot showers!! This is the time of year I have to sacrifice my hot showers for warm showers in order to avoid dry scaly skin. It sucks but it's so worth it.
3. As moms we probably wash our hands 100x more than the average person. All that washing makes my hands so dry and gross. I always carry a tube of Caramex hand lotion in my pockets and purse. I love it. Taking Vitamin B pills is also great!
4. Sleep with the humidifier on. I slept with my daughter in her room last winter with her humidifier on and I couldn't believe how much better my skin felt in the morning. This is now a regular thing in my bedroom whenever the temps outside are below 40 degrees.
5. Facial moisturizers. I use moisturizers year round but I never ever forget this time of year. If I forget I get that weird dry patch under my nose that looks like I have a booger just sitting there. Not only that, but make-up just doesn't go on smoothly with a dry scaly face. It's your face...splurge a little! I love Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream with SPF 35. If you are on a budget then Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer works great too.
6. Always shave with a moisturizing shaving cream. Avoid soaps or anything alcohol based.
As many of you know, we lost our dog, Titan, to kidney failure this past March. It was by far one of the toughest things we had to go through as a family. Well, the time has come for us to fill our home with the joy and love that you can only get from a four-legged furry friend. That's right, the Ragans are getting a dog...an Olde English Bulldogge to be exact. We are searching high and low for the perfect puppy. I found one that needed to be rescued. He is missing his left eye due to a birth defect. I am waiting to hear back from the shelter. If that doesn't work out we might just get from a breeder. We really wanted to rescue a dog but because our girls are sooooo wild and unpredictable we just didn't feel it was the safest decision for our family. Maybe in a few years we can get this doggy a buddy.
Little by little this house is transforming into our own. There is still so much that needs to be done. It's kinda funny because the style right now is a mix of old and new. It looks pretty silly. When we buy new family room furniture and paint the mantle things will start to look a lot more put together. The whole house was a builder grade flat pinkish beige. It was horrible. It was scuffed, scratched and dirty. The new colors look dark in photos but they are really great because the house lets in so much natural light. During the day the foyer is a beautiful grayish color called Liberty. In the evening it looks like a rich brown. The family room, kitchen and upstairs is Barnyard. For now, here is a sneak peak at how things are coming along after the painting of the walls.
